About Wing Tsun in Farifax and Si Hing Pramada
Sihing Pramada is a 2nd Level Technician and has been instructing Wing Tsun Kung Fu in the Bay Area since 2004 to people of all ages and walks of life. He has studied with Sifu Simon Mayer since 1999 and continues to study with Sifu Simon on a regular basis.
Although he didn't know it back then, Pramada fell in love with Wing Tsun around the age of six after seeing Bruce Lee for the first time. By age thirteen he was formally introduced to Wing Tsun and it became clear that this was the martial art for him. Thirteen years later, due to his undying love for the art (that he had still yet to practice!) he found his Sifu, Simon Mayer.
"The system of Wing Tsun as an art is beautiful and elegant. As a science, truly intelligent and practical." He refers to Wing Tsun as a science because it is a physical art with principals of geometry, physics, physiology and Daoism applied to it.
Wing Tsun is simultaneously simple and complex. It's simplicity makes it easy to learn and thus an effective form of self defense while it's complexity makes it infinitely intriguing and mentally engaging.
Wing Tsun is an art of self development and self preservation. Sihing Pramada once read that roughly 3000 years ago during China's golden age, healers/doctors were capable of removing an organ from the body, wash it in herbal solutions and reorganize it back into the system. They deemed this to be primitive (!) and came to the conclusion that it was far wiser to deal with the problem and not the symptoms. Consequently this lead to the understanding that the best way to heal was to stay healthy.
In other words, to live correctly through proper diet, practices, exercise etc. With that in mind, this next may not sound so strange: the issue of self defense against an opponent is actually one of the most extreme applications of Wing Tsun. For example the healing art known as Chi Gung is prevalent throughout the Wing Tsun system. This means that no matter what technique one is practicing or applying one is simultaneously healing oneself.
